Te Deum

The Te Deum is an ancient Christian hymn of praise and when sung outside of the liturgy is used to celebrate great events, things like a military victory such as when St. Joan of Arc broke the siege of Orleans or events like when the Church of the Good Shepherd retires its Parish House renovation debt and desires to give thanks to Almighty God.

The Parish undertook this blessed project at the turn of the 21st century securing pledges of $4 million dollars when we thought we could reasonably raise $3 million and spending $4.5 million to accomplish everything we dreamed of at the outset. When the project was completed we returned to the newly renovated Parish House in October 2004 after 18 months of exodus during construction. During that time we learned that you could sure enough be a congregation without a Parish House but not without restrooms!

The shift to permanent financing occurred in July of 2008 as we began to retire the remaining balance of $716,000. Thanks to the generosity and  faithfulness of 420 donors to the project, to the steadfastness of the congregation in annual giving through those years and to the financial leadership of Paul Simon and others, it has pleased Almighty God that we should retire this debt three years earlier than planned – Thanks be to God! Join us in the Parish House this Sunday, January 21st at 10:00 am as we celebrate this milestone in the life of our Parish and thank God for this amazing and incredible blessing before we head off to Sunday School and to God’s new year of 2018.
