Living Lent

Why not take on a Lenten discipline that lasts?

The season of Lent is a time to give, fast, and pray.  As we practice our Lenten disciplines, we are seeking a closer relationship with God by making room for our Lord in intentional ways.

Why not take on a lenten discipline that lasts by committing one Saturday morning to the Christ Church Community Meal? Choose one Saturday morning out of the year to devote to the little Episcopal church in Harrisburg that faithfully feeds 120 to 180 people in need every single Saturday!

Good Shepherd volunteers are needed the first Saturday of each month. We have been participating in this ministry for about 2 years.  A small group from Good Shepherd has consistently served and we give thanks for this dedicated group, but we need more hands on deck.

In this Lenten season make a commitment to serve at Christ Church one Saturday out of the coming year. Prayerfully, this commitment will last for many years and help to bring you and your group into a deeper relationship with God by serving those in need.  Perhaps you are in a supper club, Foyer Group, a Sunday school class, or B2B Group. This would be a wonderful commitment to take on as a family.  Invite your neighbors to join in.  It takes a group of about 8 to 10 volunteers to keep things running smoothly.

Volunteers will simply show up at the Christ Church Parish Hall at 11:00 and work until 1:30;  setting up for the meal, helping to serve the meal, and cleaning up after the meal.  Lucy Murray has organized a cooking team that does a wonderful job making the lunch that we serve on Saturday.

The Clergy and Staff of Good Shepherd are taking the first Saturday in June as our Lenten commitment.  We are hoping that you will take on one Saturday too.  Make a Lenten commitment now!

It is our prayer that Good Shepherd will continue to grow in our love for our neighbors each month and continue to seek ways to serve, giving as Christ gave of himself, with love.
