EDS Nature Preschool

Does learning have to be done at a desk? Or from a book or a computer? At EDS Nature preschool, we know learning at our forest campus can be engaging, rewarding, and fun.

Come see the difference…
Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better.  ~Albert Einstein

Episcopal Day School is thrilled to announce the opening of the EDS Nature Preschool in August 2019!  This groundbreaking opportunity will be available in its inaugural year to children entering Pre-Kindergarten or turning 4 years old by September 1, 2019.  These students will be led by experienced educator, Wren Moody, on the newest piece of the school’s larger Flowing Wells Campus, a forest campus conveniently located near the Richmond and Columbia county line.

Mrs. Moody and an assistant teacher will lead instruction outdoors to a maximum of 15 students while following the successful and challenging curriculum for PreK instilled at EDS' Walton Way campus.  However, unlike their counterparts in a “traditional” classroom setting, Nature PK students will use natural materials and experiences in nature to develop and hone skills in math, science, literacy, fine arts, and motor development. Students will spend roughly 75% of their time outside, rain or shine, with our forest campus as their classroom. If the weather is not permissive for students to be outside, the class will learn in a state of the art, technology, and WiFi-equipped yurt!

By the time class begins, Mrs. Moody will likely be the most highly qualified Nature Preschool teacher in Georgia, if not the southeastern United States. Wren holds a Masters of Teaching degree from Augusta State University, state certification in six areas, and has eleven years of teaching experience, including the last two years in the EDS Preschool.  She is currently achieving two additional certifications: Nature-Based Teacher Certification from the Eastern Region of Nature and Forest Schools (ERAFANS) and a Certificate in Forest School Leadership from the Forest School Teacher Institute (Wauhatchee Forest School). Additionally, Mrs. Moody will be certified in Wilderness First Aid.
